DAPHNE

(Working with a muse)

How it all started.

I believe I photographed Daphne for the first time on the Meir in Antwerp some ten years ago. She was a colleague belly dancer of my dear friend, make up artist and amazing belly dancer Dorien. After that, we stayed in touch and joined several times to try out things or just create.

She has a natural grace and knows the language of the camera. It’s like she transforms in front of it. A challenge for me, where she helped me grow, was to really direct the model. Coming from a registering and capturing background, it was a hurdle to “boss around”. As many subjects struggle with posing naturally, I stayed away.

With Daphne, I learned what works and we pushed each other to do better. For that and the amazing images we shot together, I am forever grateful.
